- The NFL chose the medal for America's 250th anniversary celebration.

A significant piece of American numismatic history is set to be highlighted during the Super Bowl coin toss. A modern restrike of the Libertas Americana medal, originally commissioned by Benjamin Franklin, will be used for the pre-game ceremony.
This silver medal, featuring Lady Liberty and commemorating American independence and France's aid during the Revolutionary War, has been selected by the NFL. The choice aligns with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The original medals were struck in 1783 by the Paris Mint, with a limited number created. The Smithsonian Institution, which houses several original medals, could not loan an artifact, leading the NFL to acquire a restrike from the Paris Mint.
