Stars Depart West End Musical Before Tickets Go On Sale

Weeks before tickets were set to go on sale, the West End revival of "Sunday In The Park With George" has lost its two main stars. Jonathan Bailey announced his decision to step back from the project, following his co-star Ariana Grande's earlier departure. Both actors previously starred together in the "Wicked" films.

The production team stated that Grande's exit was due to a need for an extended break from public-facing work. Bailey expressed his unwavering support for Grande and his passion for the musical, which explores the connection between George and Dot.

Despite these significant casting changes, the producers confirmed that the musical's premiere timeline has not been altered. The creative team is currently reshaping the production to accommodate a new company, aiming to preserve the artistic integrity of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's work. Casting discussions are ongoing, with no new leads announced yet.
