AAPI Artists Shine in New Sundance Fellowship

The Sundance Institute and The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) are continuing their partnership to support Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists through their fourth annual fellowship and scholarship program. This initiative provides crucial resources for emerging AAPI filmmakers working in film and television.

Six artists have been selected as fellows, each receiving a $20,000 unrestricted grant and a year-long fellowship focused on career advancement. An additional six artists were chosen as scholars, who will benefit from a year of personalized mentorship and developmental programming, including access to the Sundance network and the Sundance Film Festival.

This year's cohort represents a diverse range of genres, including horror, comedy, documentary, and family sagas. The program aims to counter stereotypes and broaden perceptions of AAPI storytelling, addressing statistics that indicate a lack of public recognition for Asian Americans in media.

Since its inception, the fellowship and scholarship have supported 36 AAPI artists, fostering a new generation of storytellers and investing in authentic, bold narratives. The organizers are proud to continue championing these artists and helping them bring their unique voices and stories to a wider audience.
