The selected projects span 11 countries, including Denmark, India, Kenya, and the United States.
A significant focus of the fund is on empowering diverse voices, with 75% of the grants directed towards artists from historically marginalized communities. Furthermore, half of the projects are from first- or second-time feature documentary directors, underscoring a commitment to nurturing emerging talent. The funding, which nearly reached one million dollars last year, supports films at various stages, from development to post-production, injecting vital resources into the global documentary landscape.
Recent successes supported by the fund include the Oscar-nominated "Fire of Love" and the Sundance Special Jury Award winner "The Lake." The current cohort features ambitious artistic approaches, with projects like "A Tale of Sea Dogs and Other Creatures" from Kazakhstan and "Chorwet (The Rhino Friend)" working title from Kenya, showcasing the diverse narratives being brought to light.
