In a major development ahead of next week's American Film Market, writer-director Elijah Bynum has assembled an impressive ensemble for his upcoming dark comedy thriller "My Darling California." The film, which is set to be one of the must-have projects at the market, will feature Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, Oscar nominee Josh Brolin, Star Trek star Chris Pine, Oscar winner Mikey Madison, Oscar nominee Don Cheadle, and Gotham winner Charles Melton in the lead roles.
Bynum, who first broke out with the A24 film "Hot Summer Nights" and followed it up with the Sundance buzz title "Magazine Dreams," is set to direct the project, which is being produced by David Hinojosa of 2AM. The film will chart how a single crime weaves together the lives of a TV host, his restless wife, a country music idol, two small-time crooks, and an ex-con, all of whom are chasing the promise of a better life in Los Angeles.
With an impressive crew behind the camera, including cinematographer Chayse Irvin, editor Leslie Jones, production designer Judy Becker, and costume designer Erin Benach, "My Darling California" is poised to be a true cinematic event when production begins in 2026.
