21 Aug
Summary
- Sun TV launches micro-dramas to boost Sun NXT subscriptions.
- Over 150 original and remastered titles planned across four languages.
- Strategy leverages existing content library and distribution muscle.

Sun TV Network is expanding its digital presence by launching micro-drama content on its Sun NXT platform, aiming to capture a share of the rapidly growing short-form video market and increase subscription income. The new offering will feature a diverse mix of over 150 titles, encompassing exclusive original micro-dramas, international content, and existing television serials reformatted for shorter viewing.
The company plans to utilize its substantial content library of 65,000 hours and strong distribution capabilities to succeed in this segment. Sun NXT will offer a primary subscription model, potentially supplemented by an advertising tier. This initiative aims to meet audience demand for engaging narratives with shorter setup times, adapting content for television screens in a 4:3 aspect ratio, a first for Indian micro-dramas.
This strategic move occurs amidst increasing competition in the digital streaming landscape from both global and domestic players. Sun TV reported a revenue of Rs 1,423.39 crore for Q1FY27, with cricket franchises being a significant contributor, while domestic subscription revenues saw a 3% increase year-on-year.
