Sublime is set to release their first new album since 1996, titled 'Until the Sun Explodes,' on June 12. The band features Jakob Nowell, son of the late Bradley Nowell, on vocals, alongside original members Eric Wilson on bass and Bud Gaugh on drums. Jakob, who initially expected a minor role, found himself deeply involved in creating the new material. The album includes collaborations with artists such as H.R. from Bad Brains, Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge, and G Love.
The title track and lead single have been released today, accompanied by a music video filmed in Long Beach, a city significant to Sublime's history. The track "Ensenada" previously topped Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart for two months in 2025. Gaugh noted the natural chemistry and sound reminiscent of the mid-Nineties with Bradley, while Wilson described Jakob as a sober echo of his father.
Jakob explained the meticulous process of creating the album involved extensive research into Sublime's discography to capture their authentic sound. He aimed to replicate the band's spontaneous, wild creative energy. "It's all for him," Jakob stated about his father, acknowledging the profound influence. The band also plans to play the album in its entirety at upcoming Red Rocks shows and launch a traveling festival and a branded cruise.
