The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam has opened its historic main auditorium as a study haven for students. Young individuals are utilizing the plush red seats, surrounded by the sounds of classical music, to focus on their studies and complete assignments.
These unique study sessions were first organized by Entree, the Concertgebouw's youth association, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative aimed to enhance students' concentration and introduce them to classical music in an inspiring setting. The sessions have proven popular, with musicians performing pieces by composers like Pachelbel and Handel, alongside film scores.
More than just a study space, the venue offers free Wi-Fi and charges a nominal fee of 2.50 euros for entry. General director Simon Reinink expressed hope that these events will not only aid students in their academic pursuits but also cultivate a future appreciation for classical music among younger audiences.
Neurologists suggest that background music can help individuals achieve a 'state of flow,' enhancing productivity. Students attending these sessions have reported that the quiet, musical environment aids their concentration, allowing them to study effectively without distraction.
