Strictly's 'Dead Wood' Dancers Cut: Ex-Pro Sparks Debate

James Jordan, a former professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, has controversially described the recent removal of several professional dancers as 'getting rid of dead wood.' He stated that the long-running BBC show, which has seen hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman depart, required a significant shake-up.

Jordan, who danced on the show from 2006 to 2013, commented that dancers join Strictly knowing they are taking someone else's job. He feels that after many years, some professionals have become stagnant and believes younger talent should be brought in.

However, fellow former professional Ian Waite disagreed with the specific dancers who were let go, suggesting the wrong ones were removed. While acknowledging the need for new talent, Waite emphasized that all professionals are talented in their own right.

Jordan also suggested that the show's judging panel could have been reduced, criticizing the current 'politically correct' tone. He expressed a desire for more 'reality' to be shown, including the hard work and emotional struggles in training.

The new hosting team for the series will consist of Emma Willis, dancer Johannes Radebe, and comedian Josh Widdicombe. Jordan praised Willis but remained reserved about the others, preferring more established presenters.

Later in the year, Jordan will perform in a new dance show, Vegas: After Hours, alongside former Strictly professionals Ian Waite, Brendan Cole, Pasha Kovalev, and Vincent Simone. This tour, which begins in October, aims to bring a Las Vegas-inspired show to audiences, featuring realistic, honest, and humorous interactions between the performers.

The tour will have 30 dates, starting in Fareham on October 3 and concluding in Cardiff on November 8. Tickets are available through various platforms.
