16 Oct
Summary
- Stranger Things cast worried about negative fan reaction to final season
- Game of Thrones' controversial finale raised concerns for the Stranger Things team
- After reading the scripts, the cast realized they had nothing to worry about

In the lead-up to the release of Stranger Things' fifth and final season, the show's cast, including actor Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, were concerned that the highly anticipated finale might not be well-received by fans. This worry stemmed from the heavy backlash that Game of Thrones faced over its controversial eighth and final season, which aired in 2019.
"I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly," Wolfhard admitted. "The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we're all walking into this going, 'We hope to not have that kind of thing happen.'"
However, after learning what the upcoming season had in store for Mike and the rest of the Stranger Things gang, Wolfhard's fears were quickly alleviated. "We knew that it was something special," he added, indicating that the cast was confident the finale would satisfy the show's devoted fanbase.
The Game of Thrones finale had been heavily criticized by fans, who created an online petition demanding that HBO remake the season with "competent writers." Even some of the show's own cast members, like Conleth Hill, who played Varys, expressed their displeasure over how the series came to a close, describing the final season as "a bit rushed."
With Stranger Things' highly anticipated finale set to drop in three separate installments beginning on November 26th, the cast and crew are hopeful that they can avoid a similar backlash and deliver a satisfying conclusion to the beloved sci-fi series.
