Stockard Channing's Quiet London Reclusion

Actress Stockard Channing, 82, revealed she has been living a reclusive life in London since just before the COVID-19 pandemic altered global patterns. This significant shift in her life occurred following the death of her long-time partner, cinematographer Daniel Gillham, in 2014.

Channing described Gillham's passing as more devastating than she initially realized, with a delayed impact that reshaped her daily existence. She previously lived in Maine but chose to move to London, a decision that vaguely coincided with political shifts in the United States. She has been living alone since Gillham's death.

Reflecting on her past, Channing has been married four times prior to her relationship with Gillham, whom she met in 1988 and was with from 1990 until his death. She expressed that while she sometimes considers having children for caregiving, she acknowledges their potential for selfishness.

Her daily routine in London is simple. Channing prioritizes her comfort over designer fashion, stating her wardrobe consists of 1980s and 90s pieces. She doesn't prioritize her appearance, considering herself not conventionally beautiful and not a "celebrity tart." She describes her "pottering" as a form of meditation and finds peace even when experiencing anxiety, viewing it as a consequence of clearing out emotional "garbage."

Despite her withdrawal from Hollywood's spotlight, Channing is slated to appear in the upcoming film 'Practical Magic 2.' She is also directing a stage production for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, though she remains uncertain about future projects, likening acting's unpredictability to life itself.
