Country singer-songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr. has officially released the studio version of his new song, "Gary." The track, which he previewed live earlier this year, pays homage to skilled tradespeople and the value of hands-on work. Wilson Jr. explained that the song’s inspiration comes from his upbringing in a family that constantly had to fix things, leading to the recognition of the indispensable "Garys" of society.
Wilson Jr. made his television debut of "Gary" on Jimmy Kimmel Live! just before its release on streaming services. This single marks the first offering from his forthcoming album, the successor to his well-received 2023 LP, "Son of Dad." The lyrics reflect a lament for a time when manual skills were more widely appreciated, contrasting with today's emphasis on higher education over trades.
Looking ahead, Wilson Jr. is set to embark on his "Gary the Torch" tour, commencing March 6 in Columbus, Ohio, with stops in major cities. He is also scheduled to perform at the 2025 CMA Awards, where he is nominated for New Artist of the Year, performing both his rendition of "Stand by Me" and his collaboration "Took a Walk."
