King's 'Gramma' Haunts Twilight Zone Revival

Harlan Ellison adapted Stephen King's short story "Gramma" for a segment of the 1985-1989 CBS revival of "The Twilight Zone." This segment, titled "Gramma," first aired as the 18th episode of the first season. King's original story was published in Weirdbook magazine in 1984 before being included in his 1985 anthology "Skeleton Crew."

The "Twilight Zone" episode features Barret Oliver as Georgie, an 11-year-old boy left in the care of his creepy, ill grandmother. Georgie uncovers a book, the 'Necronomicon,' hidden beneath floorboards, revealing his grandmother's identity as a witch shortly before her death. Ellison's adaptation closely follows King's narrative, though the original short story relies heavily on Georgie's internal thoughts.
