Colbert's Set Finds New Home!
25 May
Summary
- The Late Show with Stephen Colbert's set is donated to a museum.
- The museum beat out the Smithsonian for the set donation.
- The set will be part of an exhibit on the evolution of late night.

Following its 11-season run, the set of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" has found a new home. It will be donated to Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications, beating out competition from the Smithsonian for the prestigious acquisition. The museum's chairman confirmed that archives, part of the marquee, and Emmys will also be included.
The donated set is destined for the museum's "Evolution of Late Night Television" exhibit. This follows a previous donation of Colbert's travel desk from his 2024 Democratic National Convention broadcasts in Chicago. The museum already houses artifacts from "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson and Jimmy Fallon.
The dismantling of the set is scheduled to begin on Monday, with the pieces being transported to the museum on Tuesday. Colbert, a Northwestern University alumnus and former Second City performer, has deep ties to Chicago, having previously lived in Old Town and performed comedy there.
This generous donation contrasts sharply with the fate of David Letterman's set, which was controversially discarded in 2015 after his show ended. Letterman had expressed frustration with CBS' decision to end his program.
