Summary
- Stella McCartney's £5m Highland home plan got approval.
- The design faced objections over wildlife and appearance.
- The property is intended as a permanent residence.

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has secured approval for a £5 million home on a remote Highland peninsula. The proposed split-level property overlooking Loch Ailort faced a protracted planning dispute concerning its design and environmental impact. Concerns were raised about its effect on the fragile Moidart peninsula environment and the presence of otter holts.
Revised plans were submitted to Highland Council, addressing objections with conditions for wildlife safeguarding and public access. NatureScot indicated support, subject to monitoring measures during construction. The site, known as Commando Rock, has historical and artistic significance.
Despite some councillors describing the design as reminiscent of a "concrete bunker," the couple stated the home is sympathetically designed with natural stone and a turf roof. They confirmed their intention to live there permanently, emphasizing it as their "forever home" and not a speculative investment.
