9 Oct
Summary
- Popular actors are adapting series they starred in for micro-dramas.
- Snips platform repurposes full-length shows into short vertical episodes.
- Actors gain a stake in their adapted titles' performance via revenue share.
A new wave of microdramas is emerging, featuring stars from "Succession" and "Game of Thrones." Sarah Snook, Maisie Williams, Liam Cunningham, Iain Glen, and Kit Harington are lending their talents to adaptations on the vertical video platform Snips.
Snips specializes in repurposing well-known films and TV shows into a 9:16 ratio, with episodes ranging from 45 seconds to two minutes. This strategy aims to cater to evolving viewer preferences for mobile-first content.
Adapted series include Australian drama "The Beautiful Lie" starring Snook, Sky's "Two Weeks to Live" with Williams, Cunningham's "Domina," Glen's "Prisoners' Wives," and Harington's "Gunpowder." These shows originally aired between 2010 and 2021.
Snips offers a revenue-share model to rights owners, incentivizing actors and creators to promote their content. CEO Or Ben Shimon will be attending MIPCOM Cannes to secure further titles for adaptation, believing this format is the future of entertainment.
