A blue plaque has been unveiled to commemorate Stanley Unwin, the late comedian and creator of the unique comic language known as 'Unwinese'. West Northamptonshire Council installed the plaque at his former bungalow on High Street in Long Buckby. Unwin's career began in 1940 with the BBC War Reporting Unit. He later achieved widespread recognition on British television, radio, and film for his distinctive performances.
His daughter, Lois Johnston, shared her family's immense pleasure with the tribute, stating it is a fitting honor for someone who loved people. She fondly recalled his ability to enliven stories with his made-up vocabulary and his great joy in telling tales to children. Unwin also appeared in films, including a role as the chancellor in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' and the landlord in 'Carry On Regardless'. His final television appearance was in 1998, and he passed away in 2002 at the age of 90.
