Speaking to The Sunday Times, Stallone explained that he had informed Trump that the ambassadorship was "impossible." He stated he would have rejected the offer from the outset, comparing Hollywood's industry structure to "feudal states" with "little kingdoms." He believed his involvement would not be effective within this system.
The "Rocky" star recounted being blindsided by the announcement, which he first heard while watching television alongside fellow appointees Mel Gibson and Jon Voight. He emphasized that had he been asked initially, he would have declined due to the perceived impracticality of the role.
Despite Stallone's reservations, Trump has reportedly discussed other potential initiatives with Jon Voight, including federal film and television tax incentives. Mel Gibson has also proposed a U.S.-Italy co-production agreement as a model for future international partnerships.
