More than 40 years after its release, a sequel to the iconic film St. Elmo's Fire is reportedly in the works. Actor Rob Lowe, a star of the original 1985 movie, confirmed that he and the creative team are actively developing a script for the follow-up.
Lowe expressed optimism about the project, stating that everyone involved wants to make the sequel happen. He emphasized the enduring appeal of the original, attributing it to its accurate portrayal of navigating one's twenties. The focus is currently on crafting a script that honors the original's spirit.
This renewed push for a sequel follows the cast's reunion for the 2024 documentary 'Brats,' which revisited the cultural phenomenon of the Brat Pack. A St. Elmo's Fire series was previously in development at NBC in 2019, but it did not materialize. The original film centered on a group of recent college graduates facing adulthood.
Lowe had previously mentioned in 2024 that the sequel was in the early stages, following discussions with the studio. He believes the documentary 'Brats' has only amplified the excitement surrounding a potential continuation of the St. Elmo's Fire story.
