More than forty years after its release, a sequel to the beloved 1985 film St. Elmo's Fire is reportedly in development. Actor Rob Lowe recently shared that he and the original team are actively working on a script, aiming to capture the same spirit that made the original a snapshot of young adulthood.
Lowe expressed his enthusiasm for the project, indicating that while everyone involved is keen to participate, the focus remains on perfecting the screenplay. He mentioned meeting with the studio in 2024, noting that interest has grown, partly due to the reunion documentary 'Brats' released that year.
The original film, directed by Joel Schumacher, followed a group of recent college graduates navigating the challenges of adulthood. The cast, including Lowe, Demi Moore, Andie MacDowell, and Emilio Estevez, reunited for the 'Brats' documentary, celebrating the legacy of the Brat Pack era.
Previously, NBC had explored developing a modernized St. Elmo's Fire series in 2019, but this project did not move forward.
