Srirangapatna Dasara began on Thursday, marked by sacred rituals and a vibrant procession. A significant highlight was the first-time carrying of the Goddess Chamundeshwari idol in a wooden howdah by elephant Dhananjaya.
Filmmaker V Ravichandran inaugurated the festivities with floral tributes. Dhananjaya majestically carried the approximately 500kg howdah over a 5km route, earning admiration for his steady performance. This occurred after Dhananjaya replaced a previous elephant due to rehearsal issues.
The inaugural ceremony took place at Banni Mantap in Kiranguru. Dignitaries, including several ministers and local representatives, offered prayers. Traditional ceremonies like the Shami Vriksha Puja were also performed.
The procession was enriched by 62 cultural troupes and 10 tableaux, celebrating the area's heritage. The four-day Srirangapatna Dasara festivities are scheduled to conclude on October 18.
