1 Nov
Summary
- Artist quit her air hostess job during Covid to pursue art.
- She finds inspiration in feelings, not just visuals.
- Garments for a recent shoot were stitched by family members.
Srijita Ghosh, who previously worked as an air hostess, transitioned to art during the Covid pandemic, embracing her identity with pride after facing initial rejections due to her skin color. Her creative process emphasizes emotion and abstract feelings over concrete visuals, drawing inspiration from a wide array of sources including art, history, and personal observations. Ghosh is deeply involved in all stages of her projects, from styling and costume design to makeup and mood setting.
Her latest project, a collaboration with jewellery designer Aditi Chakraborty, reimagines the dual energies of goddesses Durga and Kali, symbolizing their connection rather than separation. Titled "The First Seed," this campaign visually narrates the birth of human life through elemental forces—Jungle, Water, and Night—and the character of Time. Ghosh, along with her mother-in-law and father-in-law, personally stitched the garments for this shoot, highlighting a profound family involvement in her artistic endeavors.
