17 Mar
Summary
- Kapoor family fights a legal battle over Sridevi's 4.7-acre Chennai land.
- Claimants allege invalidity of four sale deeds dating back to 1988.
- Madras High Court is now hearing the Kapoor family's appeal.

A legal dispute continues concerning a 4.7-acre property in Chennai once owned by the late actress Sridevi. Her husband, Boney Kapoor, and daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor have petitioned the Madras High Court following a district court's refusal to dismiss a civil suit. The suit challenges the ownership of the land, which Sridevi acquired in 1988.
Individuals claiming to be descendants of the original owner have contested four sale deeds executed in 1988. They argue that these transactions are invalid and that they only became aware of the property and alleged illegal transactions in 2023, leading them to file the suit in 2025. The Kapoor family contends the claims are fraudulent, highlighting the property has been in their possession for nearly 38 years without objection during the original owner's lifetime.
The additional district court in Chengalpattu refused to dismiss the case in December 2025, necessitating a trial. Subsequently, the Kapoor family filed a civil revision petition with the Madras High Court, which has extended an interim order staying the trial and scheduled a hearing for March 26. This legal battle over Sridevi's Chennai estate remains active.
