Spider-Verse 3: Release Date and Production Updates
13 Feb
Summary
- Spider-Verse 3's March 2024 release date has been significantly delayed.
- Directors are splitting focus between Project Hail Mary and Spider-Verse 3.
- Past production challenges and a recent strike impacted the sequel's progress.
The release of Beyond The Spider-Verse, originally slated for March 2024, is now uncertain, with Sony Pictures Animation presidents offering new insights. Co-writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been dividing their attention between this sequel and the recently filmed Project Hail Mary, which is set to debut next month. This dual focus, alongside Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson taking over directing duties for Lord and Miller during their work on Project Hail Mary, has affected Beyond The Spider-Verse's production schedule.
Initial plans intended for the two Spider-Verse sequels to be released close together. However, Across The Spider-Verse's ambitious scope reportedly led to resources being prioritized for its 2023 release. Further complicating matters, Beyond The Spider-Verse has undergone significant story element reworkings. The 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike also disrupted the movie's production, adding to the delays. Sony Pictures Animation is implementing workflow shifts to streamline future productions.
