Spider-Man's Secret Sets: Inside NYC's Hidden Worlds

Production designer Charles Wood focused on creating a grounded, street-level feel for the Spider-Man universe, making New York feel naturally present. Peter Parker's apartment was designed to be a complex space, acting as both a refuge and a prison, reflecting his isolation. This deliberate design choice aimed to immerse the audience by making the character feel as if he could be just around the corner.

Wood's team meticulously recreated elements of New York City within the UK. This included constructing Yelena's elaborate bathhouse from scratch, inspired by actual scouting locations in New York. Even a simple bodega visited by Peter was researched extensively to ensure authenticity, with some American products potentially imported to achieve the accurate look.

Beyond New York's cityscape, specific sets like Jean Grey's containment unit were developed to appear domestic initially, before revealing a more sinister purpose. Wood emphasized the importance of tactile sets and props that function realistically, especially for Tom Holland's immersive performance, ensuring the environment felt as real as possible to the actor and the audience.
