Spanish Indie Hits Stride with Acclaimed Judicial Drama "Re-Creation"

In the past year, the Spanish indie film sector has been making strides, with Latido Films, one of the country's leading sales outfits, closing a series of deals on the judicial drama "Re-Creation." The film, co-directed and co-written by six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan and Irish filmmaker David Merriman, world premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.

Latido has secured distribution agreements for "Re-Creation" in several key markets, including Spain, Australia/New Zealand, Bulgaria, and Taiwan. The company has also negotiated worldwide airline rights with Anuvu. Deals in Portugal, Greece, and advanced negotiations for the U.S. and U.K. have also been announced.

Latido's success with "Re-Creation" is part of a broader strategy to expand the types of films it represents. As the market has evolved rapidly, the company has sought to offer a diverse slate of alternatives to producers. This approach has paid dividends, with the dark comedy anthology "Homo Sapiens?" also cashing in across multiple territories, and Latido negotiating remake rights in several markets.

The company is also finding traction with elevated Latin genre titles, such as Gustavo Hernández's "The Whisper" and the paranormal-action film "The Awakening," built from material shot by the late Colombian filmmaker Jaime Osorio Márquez. Latido's catalog remains active, with titles like the Berlinale breakout "Deaf" and the documentary "The Flamenco Guitar of Yerai Cortés" generating interest in various regions.
