After seven years in the US, where the couple cherished their anonymity, they returned to the UK for their daughter Maud's education. Winkleman noted that Battersea's lack of proximity to Tube stations and schools makes her question the choice, admitting she might not select it again.

Reflecting on her time in Los Angeles, Winkleman praised American dynamism but found their worship of fame excessive. She also commented on the intense spotlight on the British royal family, stating that the unasked-for fame constitutes a form of torture. She empathizes with senior royals, describing their lives under constant scrutiny as brutal and unhealthy, acknowledging they have no alternative.
