Sonic Youth's 20-minute epic, "The Diamond Sea," originally from their 1995 album *Washing Machine*, has been reinterpreted by acclaimed plunderphonic artist John Oswald. Oswald utilized over 30 live recordings of the song, dating from the mid-1990s, to construct a new vinyl-only release. This extensive sonic collage draws from more than seven hours of live performances.
Oswald employed a rigorous process of listening, filtering, and remixing, akin to his previous work on the Grateful Dead. The resulting release features two distinct versions of "The Diamond Sea," each approximately 20 minutes and 44 seconds long. These new iterations, while incorporating elements of the studio original, retain the feel of live performances, complete with audience sounds and stage banter.
