Despite the common commercial success of such misogynistic narratives, Mohapatra finds hope in recent audience reactions. The backlash against 'Peddi's' portrayal of its heroine has prompted filmmakers to acknowledge criticism and consider removing certain scenes, which she sees as a positive sign of accountability.

This public sentiment, Mohapatra believes, may be connected to growing awareness of crimes against women.
