Filmmaker Sofia Coppola has announced the cancellation of a highly anticipated film project that would have reunited her with actress Kirsten Dunst. Coppola explained that the current global climate made the project feel "too sad," and she aims to create content that offers hope and beauty rather than something perceived as shallow.
This shelved movie would have been the fourth major collaboration between Coppola and Dunst, following their work on "The Virgin Suicides" (1999), "Marie Antoinette" (2006), and "The Beguiled" (2017). Dunst, who recently earned an Oscar nomination, had previously mentioned the project was slated to shoot this year.
Coppola also shared her fascination with Britney Spears and her memoir, "The Woman in Me." While director Jon Chu is reportedly developing a Spears biopic, Coppola expressed a strong desire to direct the project herself if the opportunity arose, stating, "I would love to do that story."
Additionally, Coppola's planned adaptation of Edith Wharton's "The Custom of the Country" for Apple TV, intended to star Jennifer Lawrence, has also moved forward with a different director and cast.
