In a major development for the world of tech-focused cinema, Sony Pictures has announced the release date for Aaron Sorkin's latest film, "The Social Reckoning." Slated to hit theaters on October 9, 2026, the movie is a companion piece to Sorkin's 2010 hit "The Social Network," which chronicled the founding of Facebook.
"The Social Reckoning" will star a talented ensemble cast, including Oscar winner Mikey Madison, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White, Emmy and Grammy nominee Bill Burr, and Oscar nominee Jeremy Strong, who will portray Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The film is written and directed by Sorkin, who will also produce alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser.
The new movie will focus on events that take place nearly two decades after the events depicted in "The Social Network." It tells the true story of how a young Facebook engineer, Frances Haugen, enlists the help of Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz to go on a dangerous journey that ultimately blows the whistle on the social network's most guarded secrets. Horwitz's reporting, known as "The Facebook Files," exposed Facebook's harmful effects on teens and its knowing proliferation of misinformation, which contributed to acts of political violence.
With its gripping narrative and star-studded cast, "The Social Reckoning" promises to be a must-see event for audiences when it premieres in the fall of 2026.
