The usual 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM broadcast slots for Emmerdale and Coronation Street on ITV were altered due to the FIFA World Cup. This schedule change, announced on June 29, 2026, meant that neither soap aired on Monday, June 29, 2026. From Tuesday to Friday of that week, Emmerdale moved to 7:15 PM and Coronation Street aired from 8:15 PM to 8:45 PM.
Many viewers reacted negatively to the disruptions, with some expressing that the schedule changes were stressful, particularly for those who rely on routine. Complaints highlighted a perceived lack of consideration for viewers who are not football fans and suggested that streaming platforms could be used to avoid such interruptions. Viewers called for episodes to be made available on ITVX earlier in the week or for football to be exclusively broadcast on sports channels.
