Saturday Night Live's Instagram account ignited controversy last week by reposting a three-year-old sketch from July 4th, 2023. The sketch, titled "Washington's Dream," featured MAGA comedian Nate Bargatze in a portrayal of George Washington.
The show is currently in its summer hiatus and was not airing new episodes on July 4th, 2026. This repost was likely intended to provide a humorous alternative for viewers celebrating the holiday. However, the decision to share older content, particularly featuring Bargatze, was met with significant disapproval.
Followers of the popular sketch comedy series expressed their discontent across the platform. The reposted content quickly became a focal point for criticism, with many users attacking the post in the comments section. The negative reaction highlights a disconnect between the show's intended humor and audience reception.
