A comprehensive box set featuring newly remastered editions of The Smiths' albums has been released. This collection includes four studio records, three compilations of singles and one-offs, and one live album, further cementing the band's reputation for brilliance and perversity.
The Smiths are described as a perfect band, possessing a distinct and powerful aesthetic. This unique style was a product of collaborative tensions and their inherent ability to articulate their artistic vision. From their first single in 1983 to their breakup four years later, their choices seemed deliberate and ingenious.
Key to their genius was singer and lyricist Morrissey. Idolizing Oscar Wilde, Morrissey brought a unique flair to masculinity, singing, and lyrical content. His virtuosic singing, marked by growls and whoops, coupled with lyrics steeped in gay culture, defined the band's sound and image.
