The highly anticipated film adaptation of the 2012 video game 'Sleeping Dogs' has a new director at the helm. Indonesian filmmaker Tjahjanto, known for his work on 'Nobody 2,' was recently announced for the project. This development follows the script's completion, with a draft finalized and shared in October 2025.
Tjahjanto expressed his commitment to the project, hinting at the extensive effort required to bring the game's world to life. He indicated that the film would take time to perfect, aiming for the best possible version. Story Kitchen is producing the film, with actor Liu, who portrays the lead character Wei Shen, also serving as a producer.
The journey to this film adaptation has been lengthy and complex. A previous attempt in 2017, which had Donnie Yen attached, faced significant delays and was eventually confirmed dead by Yen in early 2025. He had personally invested in that stalled effort.
