Summary
- Actors in Sinners did not eat real garlic during filming.
- White chocolate disguised as garlic caused filming challenges.
- Delroy Lindo tried to ration the fake chocolate treats.

During the filming of a pivotal scene in Ryan Coogler's horror film Sinners, the cast did not consume actual garlic. Instead, actors Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo were given white chocolate molded into the shape of garlic cloves. The actors found this sweet substitute to be unexpectedly difficult to manage on set. Jordan described the white chocolate as "crazy sweet," and the large size of the pieces made them hard to eat discreetly, leading to some discreet spitting and hiding of the chocolate.
Delroy Lindo, in character, expressed concerns about consuming too much chocolate and took it upon himself to break the pieces into smaller portions and ration them among the cast. This led to humorous interactions, with Lindo even challenging director Ryan Coogler to try the chocolate. Coogler and Jordan noted that Lindo was sometimes caught pretending to eat the chocolate, a moment that director Coogler found surprisingly worked well in the final edit to enhance the scene's suspense. The film itself is recognized for its record-breaking 16 Oscar nominations.
