Concert Chaos: Fan Faints, Singer Blasts Venue
11 Mar
Summary
- Singer halted show due to a fan fainting in the crowd.
- Venue previously had license suspended after deaths.
- Concert-goers echoed concerns about inadequate security.

Grammy-nominated singer Sombr expressed strong criticism of Brixton Academy on Monday evening after a fan fainted in the audience. The singer paused his performance, highlighting the apparent lack of attentiveness from the venue's security staff and calling it the "most poorly managed venue." This incident has drawn parallels to past safety issues at the venue.
Brixton Academy's license was suspended in 2022 after two fatalities and life-changing injuries occurred during a crowd crush. The venue reopened in 2024 after implementing 77 new safety conditions. However, recent concert-goers have corroborated Sombr's concerns, describing "awful" security and a significant delay in noticing distressed individuals.
Attendees also reported extreme heat and insufficient ventilation, leading to multiple instances of fainting. One concert-goer mentioned that water distribution was ineffective for those further back in the crowd. Another recalled a similar situation at a 2022 concert where the artist had to intervene due to fainting and staff using hose pipes to cool the audience.
