On 2025-11-06T04:15:51+00:00, singer Chinmayi Sripada found herself at the receiving end of extensive online abuse on the social media platform X. The harassment was triggered by her husband, actor-director Rahul Ravindran's comments on his partner's freedom to wear a mangalsutra after marriage.
The X users who felt the couple were not "upholding culture" targeted Chinmayi and her children with their abuse. Some even gathered on X Spaces to state that women like Chinmayi should never have children, and even if they do, the children should die soon. The abusers also used unparliamentary language to insult Chinmayi and her husband.
Angered by the escalating abuse, Chinmayi directly involved Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, who responded by publicly tagging the Hyderabad Cybercrime and Hyderabad Police Department accounts on X, signaling law enforcement's awareness of the issue and intent to address it. Investigations reportedly continued as some abusers attempted to migrate to other social media platforms.
Chinmayi also lashed out at the X Space host for platforming the harassers and questioned the people who attended those Spaces for remaining silent when she was being abused. She urged people to be decent even if they disagree with anyone's opinions.
