A new book about Prince includes allegations that Sinead O'Connor feared the artist, stemming from a disturbing encounter they had. Hair and makeup artist Terra Hinrichs recounts O'Connor's fear in the book "Prince: A Sign o' the Times.".
O'Connor herself detailed the incident in her 2022 book, "Rememberings." She described an evening after recording Prince's song "Nothing Compares 2 U," during which Prince allegedly offered her a drink, then suggested a pillow fight, ultimately hitting her with a pillow containing a hard object.
Hinrichs states O'Connor called her that night, deeply unsettled and mentioning Prince's drug use, expressing romantic disinterest and fear. This account contrasts with Prince's assistant Therese Stoulil, who claimed O'Connor used to persistently call and demand to speak with Prince.
Another perspective from Paul Peterson, who originally recorded the song, suggests Prince was resentful of O'Connor's international success with "Nothing Compares 2 U," reportedly stating, "It should have been me."
Prince died on April 21, 2016, at age 57 from an accidental drug overdose. Sinead O'Connor passed away on July 26, 2023, at 56 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma.
