Simpsons Co-Showrunner Vows to Keep Springfield at Universal Parks

As of October 2025, the future of The Simpsons at Universal Studios theme parks appears secure, according to the show's co-showrunner Matt Selman. Despite speculation that the iconic animated series could move to Disney parks after the House of Mouse's 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Selman says he would be "shocked" if The Simpsons were to leave Universal.
The Simpsons has had a strong presence at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Orlando for over a decade. Both parks feature The Simpsons Ride, a motion simulator attraction, as well as expansive Springfield areas complete with restaurants and shops. Selman praises the quality of these immersive lands, saying the "branding and level of Springfield specificity is fantastic" and that the food offerings, like Krusty Burger and Cletus' Chicken Shack, are "so good."
Looking to the future, Selman even pitches a seasonal "Treehouse of Horror" update for the Springfield areas, saying it's "insane" they haven't done a spooky overlay for Halloween Horror Nights. As a longtime Simpsons fan, Selman is confident Universal will maintain its commitment to the franchise, noting that removing Springfield would be a major logistical challenge and "destroy them."
