Shyambazar's Uttorer Adda has evolved into a dynamic cultural nexus, harmoniously integrating community spirit, artistic expression, and lively discussions. Situated on Raja Dinendra Street opposite Deshbandhu Park, this visually appealing destination is characterized by its iconic tea stalls and a cherished tradition of annual graffiti murals painted just before Saraswati Puja.
The initiative, which began approximately 12 years ago, was officially named Uttorer Adda after the Fanush festival in 2016, with official registration occurring two years later. Initially, it served as a simple meeting point for residents, fostering conversations over tea. Today, it stands as a prominent urban landmark, with its walls adorned by yearly graffiti, which has also successfully curbed wall advertisements and earned local respect.
Beyond the striking street art, Uttorer Adda hosts a five-day cultural program featuring music, drama, painting, and a nine-year-old canvas art competition. In 2021, a street library and wall magazine were established to display neighborhood children's poems and paintings, supported by local officials. A statue of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was also installed in September of that year, further enriching the space.
