Indian cinema's 1975 landmark film, "Sholay," is scheduled for its "Films in Concert" world premiere in London on October 10. The Royal Albert Hall will host this event, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Melvin Tay performing R. D. Burman's score live to the film.
Produced by Sippy Films and esk, the screening will present "Sholay: The Final Cut." This version is a recently restored 4K presentation of Ramesh Sippy's film, including footage that was initially cut by the Indian censor board in 1975. The restored film will be shown in Hindi with English subtitles.
Shehzad Sippy of Sippy Films expressed excitement about bringing "Sholay" to audiences in this novel format. The film, celebrated for its enduring legacy and frequent appearance on critics' rankings of Indian cinema, follows two criminals hired to capture a notorious bandit.
This premiere follows similar successful "Films in Concert" events at the Royal Albert Hall, such as "RRR in Concert." The venue has other upcoming concert screenings planned, including "La La Land" and "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."
