The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville recently hosted the "Sho-Bud Showcase Live," a four-hour event dedicated to the Sho-Bud pedal steel guitar. This gathering attracted thousands of enthusiasts and featured a remarkable lineup of musicians from various genres. The showcase celebrated the revival of the Sho-Bud brand, a name long associated with country music.
Presented by Sho-Bud, the event brought together expert steel guitar players to demonstrate the capabilities of the 10-string instrument. Sho-Bud guitars, co-created by Shot Jackson and Buddy Emmons, were prominent in the 1960s and Seventies. After production declined following a brand acquisition, Shot Jackson's grandchildren reacquired Sho-Bud in 2024, initiating its comeback.
Guitar heroes such as Slash and Don Felder performed, alongside prominent steel guitarists like Lloyd Green, Junior Brown, Dan Dugmore, and Robert Randolph. The showcase also benefited the Peter Frampton Myotosis Foundation and the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, underscoring a charitable aspect to the musical celebration.
Performances highlighted the diverse applications of the pedal steel, from country and blues to Southern rock. Notably, Lloyd Green, an 89-year-old legend with over 30,000 studio recordings, shared the stage with Slash, performing a rendition of "Sweet Child O' Mine" on their respective Sho-Bud models. The event aimed to give the pedal steel guitar, often in the background, its well-deserved spotlight.
