Shilpa Rao Backs AR Rahman on Industry "Communal" Remarks

Shilpa Rao, a noted Indian playback singer, has offered her perspective on AR Rahman's controversial remarks regarding alleged communal biases within the Hindi film industry.

Rao advised artists to avoid becoming gullible and blindly accepting industry narratives. She stressed the importance of maintaining artistic authenticity, even if it means foregoing certain professional opportunities or projects.

She elaborated that artists might occasionally lose projects or songs for adhering to their creative instincts. However, she contended that choosing a more personal, 'in-your-face' song, despite potential failure, is preferable to performing a predictable, 'boring' track.

Earlier in January, AR Rahman had spoken about his experiences, suggesting a possible shift in power dynamics within the industry that might favor less creative individuals and alluded to communal undertones, though he noted these were not directly apparent to him.
