The series departs from the original procedural, delving into a darker, grittier narrative. Hondo finds himself in a significantly altered personal life, marked by divorce and the death of his mother.
A mission gone wrong has led to his expulsion from the organization he once served, leaving him feeling adrift. However, his former commander, Robert Hicks, recruits him back with the promise of reviving S.W.A.T.
