Shekhar Suman Back on YouTube, Reminisces Bal Thackeray's Fascist Remark

Shekhar Suman, a renowned television host, has re-entered the late-night show arena with his new YouTube series, 'Shekhar Tonite.' The show debuted on May 15, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari appearing as the first guest. This return signifies Suman's comeback to a format he popularized in India with his 1997 show, 'Movers and Shakers.'

During his interview with Gadkari, Suman shared a captivating anecdote about an unexpected 3 AM phone call from Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. The call, which began with Thackeray complimenting Suman's work, quickly led to an on-air interview the very next day. Suman recounted the electrifying experience of interviewing Thackeray, recalling a moment when he directly asked the leader if he was a fascist. Thackeray's affirmative response, stating that India needed one, was met with applause, highlighting the daring nature of the exchange.

Suman also shared a lighthearted post-interview interaction, where Thackeray playfully suggested doing another segment, to which Suman humorously responded about not having another costume. His most recent acting role was in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's show 'Heeramand: The Diamond Bazaar,' which was released on Netflix in May 2024.
