Shaun the Sheep Leaps to Circus Stage

The renowned Australian circus group Circa is bringing the popular character Shaun the Sheep to life on stage in a unique family show. Artistic director Yaron Lifschitz draws parallels between the farm animals' interactions and classical family dramas, emphasizing character dynamics and societal rules.

The production meticulously adapts the beloved cartoon's physical humor and anarchic spirit, incorporating elements from hundreds of episodes. It features tumbling, juggling, and aerial skills, enhanced by clips from the original TV series. Rigorous attention was paid to character design, with specific approval needed for each sheep's iconic googly eyes.

This collaboration marks Circa's first venture into licensing a well-known brand, involving detailed specifications from Aardman Animations. While Lifschitz usually favors a more abstract approach, he found value in Aardman's punctilious storytelling, leading to a well-crafted theatrical experience that balances skill with narrative.
