However, Burgess theorizes that the perceived toxicity is largely a product of intense online fan reactions and criticism, which she believes have escalated in recent times.

Echoing similar sentiments, professional dancer Lindsay Arnold also voiced her concerns about the excessive online hate targeting the show's pros and crew. She emphasized the demanding nature of their work and urged viewers to be more considerate, highlighting the difference between fictional characters and the real individuals involved.
