The Australian documentary "Shared Table: Regional Heroes" is set for a limited theatrical release in India this year, a significant step after its world premiere at the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). This film, the sole Australian entry in MIFF's international competition, was acquired by Cinepolis India for distribution.
Directed by Melbourne-based filmmaker Nandita Chakraborty, the documentary embarks on a journey through regional Victoria. It highlights four migrant communities who share their homes and culinary traditions, delving into themes of identity, displacement, and memory, all centered around the universal language of food.
Chakraborty, born in Kolkata and now an Australian citizen, expressed her excitement for the film's Indian release, noting it will showcase overlooked stories from regional Victoria. Producer Niru Tripathi emphasized the film's message of diversity strengthening communities and hoped it would foster greater cultural appreciation among audiences.
The documentary's premiere at MIFF was attended by Australian Deputy Consul General Christian Jack. Following its Indian run, "Shared Table: Regional Heroes" will have its Australian premiere at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival.
