In an exclusive interview, actress Shailene Woodley has revealed that she is set to star in and produce a Janis Joplin biopic, "Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can." The 33-year-old Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe-nominated star has been working on the project for the past 7 years, and she finds the prospect of singing for the role to be a "very scary" and "vulnerable" experience.
The Joplin biopic, which will tell the life story of the iconic singer who passed away at the age of 27 in 1970, has been in development for years. However, the project is now moving forward with the help of California's tax credit, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Rolling Stone last September. Woodley expressed her belief that Joplin would be "smiling ear to ear, zipping down the PCH in her psychedelic Porsche" knowing that her story is bringing opportunities and funding to the city and people that held so much significance to her.
Woodley is currently collaborating with renowned songwriter, singer, and music producer Linda Perry to bring Joplin's story to life on the big screen. The actress is also working with Mars to raise awareness for pet adoption during Global Adoption Weekend.
